All-in-one restaurants.

I know almost every city and town has them, but I’ve noticed a lot of those all-in-one carry out places in DC. Mostly in the “not so great” parts of town, like where I live.

There’s just something inordinately wrong/disgusting to me about a place that makes Chinese food, seafood, subs and pizza all in one area.

Ok, ok, they’re convenient, I’ll give you that. You’ve got higher odds of your craving being satisfied quickly in just one place.

Still.

Generally, they’re dingy and not at all welcoming from the outside. There are never any seats inside (it is a carry out only place, after all) and more often than not, you’re yelling your order through bulletproof glass to someone who can barely speak English. I’ve been witness to this in passing the many I have discovered. I have never, and don’t see myself ever, stepping foot in one. They frighten me a little.

Addicted!

I’m addicted to OKCupid. It’s a dating site. One of the few remaining quality sites that are actually free.

Really, though, I only use the site for its entertaining, insightful quizzes.

I know, I know, that sounds almost the same as a guy saying, “I only buy Playboy for the articles.”

But, I have proof! Just look at my quiz history!

DC to pay students for good grades.

DC has taken some inspiration from New York City and will begin paying students for good grades, attendance and otherwise stellar academic achievement. They will get paid up to $100 every two weeks and the money will be deposited into a bank account where they will then receive a debit card to spend that money as they see fit.

In theory, I think this is a great idea - especially for families of low income who cannot reward their children for strong performances at school. My walk to and from work has me passing by several schools, a few of which house many kids that sadly don’t care about their education. Perhaps a little cash will offer an incentive to learn how to speak proper English and utilize proper grammar.
